Those mutherfuckers sold out to Starbucks which means-joy of joys- they are easily acquired here in Portland, but they have lost their SOUL. I like Voodoo. They've got a good thing going. I miss the Doughnut Plant. My spellchecker doesn't recognize the word :"doughnut". What does that say about the direction our society is headed??
You guys are being awfully tight-lipped out there...am I suddenly the only one without enough on my plate?

Top Pot was recently featured by Jane and Michael Stern on "The Splendid Table," and they played it up as being really goth. They even ended the segment with "Bela Lugosi's Dead"! Does that make Starbucks goth? Doughnut Plant sells at Dean & Deluca, which is even more bourgeois than Starbucks (though somehow seems more forgivable). Up with Winchell's, who would rather die than give in to corporate greed!
CORRECTION: Actually, I guess Winchell’s Donuts still exists. There are apparently two in Portland still, in rather weird locations. But the one we grew up going to in Hollywood was in fact replaced by a Starbucks. Starbucks actually offered to take on the Winchell's employees, but so great was their pride that they committed ritual suicide rather than give in. (Rumor is that they are buried under that nasty little "plaza" by the Hollywood Burger Bar.)
CORRECTION 2: I was think of Voo Doo Donuts. I'm not really that surprised Top Pot would sell out...
Peter Pan doughnuts in Greenpoint will never sell out. In fact, they won't even sell wholesale. Or they might, but you have to commit to coming at picking up the doughnuts at 4:30 in the morning. If you miss the pick-up, they force you to eat all the doughnuts. With no coffee!
